Board Approves Termination Following Pre- Disciplinary Termination Proceedings

NORWICH, CT – May 9, 2019 – The Board of Directors (the “Board”) of the Connecticut Municipal Electric Energy Cooperative (“CMEEC”) today voted unanimously to terminate Drew Rankin for cause following the conclusion of pre- disciplinary termination proceedings with respect to Mr. Rankin’s employment status.

Following the Special Committee’s recommendation, the Board of Directors authorized CMEEC’s General Counsel to initiate pre- disciplinary termination proceedings for Mr. Rankin’s employment  on March 28, 2019. At the conclusion of the proceedings the Board found that Mr. Rankin’s conduct met the definition of “cause” within the termination provisions of his contract and voted to move forward with his termination.

Following today’s decision, the Board of Directors released the following statement: “After careful, thoughtful consideration of the facts, we are confident that the decision to terminate Mr. Rankin’s employment is in the best interests of CMEEC, our member municipalities and ratepayers in the communities where we operate. As a public entity, we fully recognize the important role we play in our communities and the responsibility we all have to ensure CMEEC is operating at the highest standards of organizational integrity. We will continue working diligently to regain the trust of our members and ratepayers as we deliver on our commitment to provide lower-cost energy solutions for years to come.
